Big Cloud Productions

FAQ’s

Have you got a question about how we work here at Big Cloud Promotions? It may well be covered in our FAQ section.

Studio Productions

That’s absolutely fine. We’ve completed plenty of full album and EP productions for our client’s.
As long as we know how many songs are needed before we start, you can record as many as you like.

No. We can try as many takes as necessary. It’s very relaxed here.

Yes, no problem at all. We can either take a direct feed from your keyboard or alternatively you can use our Midi controller to trigger any sound you like (grand piano, synth, hammond etc)

No. You can have one if you want, and I strongly recommend it, especially if you’re adding other instruments to the track later on, but if you’re a good musician who can keep good time, then you’re fine to just play along with the existing tracks if you prefer.

Yes and no. To keep the cost of your production affordable, we trigger top quality, real world live drum samples using a midi controller.
What you end up with is an audio track of a real drummer playing a real kit, we just trigger the notes electronically. You WILL get real drum sounds on your record, and that’s what matters. For Pop or Dance tracks, we also have access to a wide library of electronic drum kits, loops, machines and beats.
Obviously, if your budget allows it and you want a real drummer, we can arrange that for you too.

We’ll do up to three Mix revisions for you. Once we’ve tracked and mixed your song. We’ll initially send you a first draft mix and then you’ll give us feedback regarding any changes to the mix that you would want. (ie: More Drums, less Acoustic Guitar, More Reverb on Backing Vocals etc)

  • We’ll then send you a first Mix Revision mp3. (1st Mix Rev)  Maybe you’ll ask for some more changes.
  • We’ll then send you a second Mix Revision mp3 based on your suggestions (2nd Mix Rev). We’ll make more changes based on your suggestions.
  • We’ll then send you the third and final Mix Revision (3rd Mix Rev). You’re hopefully very happy with th mix!

At this point, we would now do the final edits and MASTER the 3rd Mix revision for you. Once we’ve recieved the balance payment, We’d then send you the finished Master WAV Files via The Dropbox.

Yes, we’d be happy to. Usually, we’ll just add backing vocals to your track, backing up your own lead vocals, but from time to time a client will ask us to sing the lead vocal for them and that’s fine too. Just provide us with lyrics and a guide vocal track and we’ll do the rest.

Once we start tracking, it usually takes about seven days to get to the first rough mix, obviously, the timescale is dependent on the complexity of the particular song. (For example, a straightforward rock song with just drums, bass and guitar won’t take as long as a song that requires extensive orchestration). From that point the remixing process is pretty quick, we will usually have it mixed and mastered within a further seven days. So the average song can be completed in roughly two weeks depending on current workloads.

Cloud Based Productions

That’s absolutely fine. We’ve completed plenty of full album and EP productions for our client’s.
As long as we know how many songs are needed before we start, you can record as many as you like.

The best way is to send us your demo via Dropbox Once we have received your order we will send you a link to your own personal Dropbox folder, from which we can share mixes with you.

Feel free to just leave the instrumentation to us. We’ve been writing, producing and mixing original songs for years and we know what works, but be aware that if we get no instruction from you at all, you may end up with a track that wasn’t exactly as you imagined. So, you can be as specific as you like or you can just leave it to us. Either way, you’ll get a great track.

If you intend for your demo to be included in the final mix then here’s some points to remember. There’s lots of ways we can do this. You can send us a single mixdown file (like in our song production video) or individual tracks (separate tracks for vocal, guitar etc). If you’d like for us to only use your vocal, then make sure you send us that on a separate track.

  • Play to a click track. If it’s not in time, it’s very difficult to then add multiple instruments and have the whole thing sound great. If you struggle to play to a click, we’d be happy to redo your guitar/piano part for you.
  • Ideally have a clean recording with no clipping, clicks or pops.
  • If you have individual tracks that need including, send them to us.
  • Send us the files in WAV format if possible (use Dropbox, YouSendIt etc)
  • Let us know what bpm (Beats per minute) number you recorded your demo to.

The exact same way as a regular session. Just get in touch through our Contact form. The only difference is, instead of coming here for the recording session in person, you’ll instead send us a demo through dropbox/yousendit/ or whatever cloud storage system you prefer.
You’ll get the same contract we give all our clients, giving you all your production rights and payment will be made in the same way.
We’ll send you confirmation when the initial deposit payment has been received along with an online form to fill in, as this will help us customise your perfect song production service.

Full Band Productions

That’s absolutely fine. We’ve completed plenty of full album and EP productions for our client’s.

(Standard Live Production) Once we have recorded the live band, it usually takes about seven days to get to the first rough mix, obviously, the timescale is dependent on the complexity of the particular song. (For example, a straightforward rock song with just drums, bass and guitar won’t take as long as a song that requires extensive orchestration).

(Deluxe Production) This is all dependent on how long the band takes recording their individual parts. Once everything is recorded it usually takes about another seven days to get to the first rough mix of a simple rock song. (A more complex arrangement may take longer).

From that point the remixing process is pretty quick, we will usually have it mixed and mastered within a further seven days. So a Standard Live Production song can be completed in roughly two weeks depending on current workloads. A Deluxe Production is band dependent, but again, about two weeks once all the tracks are recorded.

Live Studio Recordings

That’s absolutely fine. We’ve completed plenty of full album and EP productions for our client’s.
As long as we know how many songs are needed before we start, you can record as many as you like.

No. We can try as many takes as necessary. It’s very relaxed here.

It all depends. If you’re an acoustic duo or trio with simple percussion, then yes. If you’re a full electric band with a drum kit, then unfortunately not. We’re a small studio and our live recording service is aimed at singer-songwriters or smaller acoustic acts.

We do offer a full band production though, check it out.

Yes, no problem at all. We can either take a direct feed from your keyboard or alternatively you can use our Midi controller to trigger any sound you like (grand piano, synth, hammond etc)

With a simple live recording ie: just acoustic guitar and vocal, will only take a day or two to finish at most.

No. You can have one if you want, and I strongly recommend it if you want to add other instruments to the track later on, but if you’re just accompanying yourself, and you’re happy with a simple live recording, then feel free to just keep your own time.

A simple live recording that needs no extra instrumentation from us will usually be mixed and mastered within seven days. So the average live song can usually be completed in a week depending on current workloads.

Other Services

Yes, we’ve done quite a few custom backing tracks for clients over the years. Bare in mind, these are not cheap MIDI backing tracks, these are essentially the same as a studio production as we record each element by hand and cost £200 per track.

Yes. We have a gift card service here GIFT CARDS . It was originally set up to offer live recording gifts for people who may not actually be professional musicians, but alternatively, if you want to send your favourite musician the gift of a studio production or even a whole album, just get in touch. We can offer something for everyone.

Yes, we have access to great pro session singers of all genders.

Just get in touch via the contact form.
Give us as much details as possible and have a look at our podcast page before you do, it will give you a good idea of what we offer.

Bookings & Payments

It’s purely for transparency and it benefits both of us. The client knows exactly what they’ve ordered, how much it will cost them and will be reassured that there will be no subsequent claims on their song rights.
From our side, we’re covered if someone decided to withhold payment.
We just find it just makes the whole process easier for everyone involved.

Start by getting in touch with us via the contact form and we’ll decide how many sessions you’ll need, what will be recorded in the big studio and what will be recorded at Big Cloud.
Once we’ve agreed on an initial recording session date, you’ll get a contract which covers you legally with all the rights to your productions and will include all the production and payment details.

You get up to three revisions of the mix free of charge. So you can keep asking for changes in the mix until you’re happy.

A revised mix may include changes to as many elements as you like within the song, so there is ample opportunity to get things how you like it.
We can still remix a song after your three revisions are used up, but there would be a reasoanable extra charge.

For your album art or for credits on your digital releases, a credit would need to be given for whatever service we have provided for you.

Production and Mastering credits would be needed.
ie: “Produced and Mastered by Big Cloud Productions”.

And if we’ve supplied instruments for you, performance credits too.
ie: “Guitar, Bass and Drums by Big Cloud Productions”.
